OBJECTIVES OF POSITION
- To contribute to the provision of quality respite to people with a disability and their carers
- To promote the philosophy of people with disabilities being valued members of the community
- To enhance the role of the carer not to replace it
- To work as an affective team member of CODA to achieve the purpose of the role
- To function within the mission and objectives of CODA
- To maintain competency in fulfilling the requirements of the role
OVERVIEW OF POSITION
- The purpose of the position is to provide personal care and or community access support to people with a disability and their families within their own residence or their local community
- The position works under the support and supervision of the consumer and service coordinator
- The position works within a negotiated care plan and the written policies of CODA
QUALIFICATIONS
- Full COVID-19 Vaccination
- Current NDIS Worker Screening Check (or Yellow Card)
- NDIS Worker Orientation Module (or ability to obtain)
- Current First Aid Certificate
- Current (or an ability to obtain) Manual Handling Competency
- Current Queensland Driver’s License
- Previous experience in Disability Services and or Age Care field is desirable
- Desirable: Certificate III or IV in Aged Care, Disability, or Community Services (or related field). Nursing students are encouraged to apply.
GENERAL SKILLS AND ABILITIES
- Provision of personal care support: all aspects of personal hygiene and grooming
- Ability to undertake specific domestic tasks: making beds, cleaning bathroom area after use, collection of soiled clothes and linen for washing
- Ability to communicate with families and consumers
- Ability to work and adapt to a range of environments and family cultures
- Ability to maintain consumer and family confidentiality
- Ability to provide the service within a negotiated care plan
- Ability to provide support to the consumer in their local community to assist them to access a recreational or social activity of their choice
- Ability to transfer consumers with correct manual handling procedures or with consumers equipment
- Ability to attend in/out service training for career and service development
- Ability to problem solve
- Ability to perform basic administration tasks associated with the position
SPECIFIC DUTIES
- Personal Care/ In-Home Respite:
- Bathing
- Showering
- Transferring and hoisting
- Toileting
- Meal Assistance
- Shaving
- Dressing/Undressing
- Allied tasks such as making of persons bed
- Washing soiled linen/clothes
- Community Access:
- Recreational or social activities within their local community that the consumer identifies with e.g Movies, picnics, shopping, bowling
- Some transferring may be involved
